Claire is moving right along!

Claire had a good night! She impressed the doctors with her perfect blood gases and after the first hour or two they stopped getting them so frequently. She had me worried because when they extubated her they told me that her throat was really red and sore which caused her not to cry for a long time. Crying is good when they first get their ventilator tube out because then they blow off a lot of Co2's in their blood and fully oxygenate thier lungs. She was a little fussy through the night because she would wake up and realize her throat hurt but the nurse started at 11 pm giving her 10 cc's of breast milk through her NG tube every two hours. She did a great job keeping that down all night. This morning they took out her main jugular line, right radial arterial line, and her Foley Catheter. So I am sure at this point you are asking me what she could possibly have left on her. She has two Peripheral IV's, one on her hand and one on her foot, and also her NG tube in her nose. She started to get a 15 cc bottle every two hours. Her first one at noon we could only get 5 cc's before she would not take anymore. The second one at 2 pm she took about 7 cc's. She is trying hard and I really sympathize with her and her sore throat. Hopefully we will go up to the 5th Floor tomorrow on Saturday where we need to focus on eating, gaining weight, watching her liver enzymes, and hopefully clearing up her Jaundice/Billirubin levels.
